our history

how our past shaped who we are today
Picture
Cache Valley Counter Tops, Inc. (CVCT) was organized in 1976 by Doug White.  At the time, Doug was working for his father, Floyd, in the family lumber yard in Richmond.  White Builder’s Supply was your typical small town lumber yard.  Doug had recently returned from an LDS mission and graduated with a Bachelors degree from USU in an area he wanted nothing to do with.  Doug decided there was a market for rolled edge laminate countertops, so he bought a post-form laminate machine, established CVCT, and started offering countertops as part of the lumber yards offering.  The countertop business flourished while the small town lumber yard faded away and pretty soon CVCT had grown into one of the largest countertop shops in northern Utah.
In 1990, CVCT started offering Corian® countertops.  CVCT was one of the first companies in Utah to offer solid surface as a countertop option.  In fact, in 2004 CVCT and Doug White were awarded the prestigious “Fabricator of the Year” award by ISSFA, the International Solid Surface Fabricators Association, for their leadership and contribution to the solid surface industry.  In 2003, CVCT saw the opportunity to get into the stone countertop market and built a 10,000 square foot, state-of-the-art fabrication facility and started offering granite and quartz countertops.  One of the first things CVCT did was figure out a way to offer integrated sinks in stone countertops, a feature which had not previously been offered.  With CNC machinery, digital templating, automatic polishers, and other equipment, CVCT is able to offer high-end options to customers at standard price levels.

In 2005, CVCT decided to expand into the cabinet market and began selling and installing cabinets.  This caused quite a stir in the industry, but quickly became another one of CVCT’s competitive advantages.  CVCT is able to offer cabinet and countertop installation on the same day, saving customers weeks of time on their projects.  We now provide cabinets to some of the biggest builders in Cache Valley.  In 2006, Doug decided it was time to step away from the business and sold it to his oldest son, Paul White.  Paul grew up sweeping the floor and had worked in all areas of the business since returning from an LDS mission in 1997.  Paul graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Business Management from USU in 2000.  He jokes that he learned more in one week of managing CVCT than in his entire time at USU.  Experience really does teach lessons that can’t simply be learned from study alone.  In 2014, Paul changed the name of the business to Cache Valley Cabinets & Tops to more accurately reflect who we are and what we do.
Through the years there have been many ups and downs, but definitely more ups.  So what is the secret to our success?  Hard work, honesty, and simply treating our customers and employees the same way we would like to be treated.  CVCT regularly gets told by customers that we were the only sub on their project that showed up the day we said we would.  We do our absolute best to be honest with the people we deal with in everything we do.  Our word means a lot.  If we say we will do something, we are going to do it.  If something goes wrong (and it occasionally does) we will do everything in our power to correct the problem.  Our commitment to you doesn’t end when our trucks pull out of your driveway.  So come into our showroom, call us, get a bid, or have us come to your home, then you compare us to the others guys and you decide for yourself why we have been in business since 1976!
